About Kedarkantha Trek

The journey for the beautiful Kedarkantha peak trek commences from the city of Dehradun. From Dehradun it’s a long drive to Sankri located at an altitude of 6400 feet and takes about 10 hours to reach. It’s a distance of 220 km from Dehradun. The trekking trip starts from Sankri the next day towards Jadu Ka Talab which is based at 9100 feet and takes about 5 hours trekking to reach the destination. During this trail one can experience the beauty of lush meadows, dense pine forests, cascading beautiful streams, and gorgeous maple trees. Here is the first campsite where the trekkers need to stay in tents. From Jadu ka talab on the following day one needs to trek up to 11,250 feet towards Kedarkantha base which is again a distance of approximately 4.5 kms. In this trail the trekkers pass through lush meadows and for the first time catch the view multiple snow capped peaks standing tall encircling the location. The next destination is the Kedarkantha peak which is based at a height of 12,500 feet and this trail can be a little challenging in compared to others. However the views of the fascinating Himalayas make it up for all the hard work with its breathtaking views. On conquering the peak it’s a journey back where the first stop would be at Horegaon camp at 8900 feet which can be reached on the same day evening. The next day it’s a trail back to Sankri through dense pine forests. From Sankri it’s a journey back to Dehradun and way forward.

Kedarkantha Trek is one of the most fascinating and thrilling trekking tours which provides all the excitement but with limited challenges and in much less time. It’s a weeklong tour and can be easily commuted through Dehradun which can be reached from all parts of the country. The tour is one of the least expensive trekking tours and can be enjoyed with all ease and comfort.

Tour Overview

Day 01

Arrival at Sankri (6,400 ft.); 200 Km drive from Dehradun

The drive from Dehradun to Sankri is a fascinating hill drive of 8-9 hours stretching over 200 kilometre ride via Mussoorie, Damta, Naugaon, Purola, Mori and Naitwar. you may see stunning valleys and forest cowl throughout the journey. Sankri could be a tiny village within the Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand and also the last road head to Govind life Sanctuary. keep are going to be in Guest House/Camp/Home remain sharing basis. The path can start future morning at 07:00 AM with lightweight breakfast and a quick session of Kedarkantha trek by The path Himalaya team. Transport are going to be organized at a further value from Dehradun train station to Sankri(One Way) at 06:30 AM. value of cab – Rs. 5,500/- per vehicle.
Day 02

Sankri (6,400 ft.) to Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft.)

Initially the trek from Sankri village to Juda Ka Talab will give you with altitude rise of regarding 2700 foot., this can be regarding 4-5 hours of trek through the dense forest trees and thick carpet of maple and pine leaves all brown in color and witness the charming great thing about the character. the trail goes through Saud village and that may be a light climb. Juda Ka Talab camping ground are going to be encircled by tall pine and oak trees and mountain slopes. nightlong keep in camps, fancy the serenity scattered around this place with evening sunset and scintillate sunrise within the morning.
Day 03

Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft.) to Kedarkantha Base Camp (11,250 ft.)

Today’s trail is short and again begins through dense forests of pine and oak trees only and through steep ridge and much more dense areas, this is about to take 2-3 hours to reach the open highlands below the summit. This is one of the finest stretches on this trail as the natural beauty is unbelievable and promises to leave behind an unforgettable memory. As you move forward into forest suddenly at the end forest trails you start to see a wide meadow stretching in front of mighty Dhauladhar Ranges. This camping site has excellent picturesque views and is the main highlight of the trek. You can roam around this place easily and can soak all the fresh tidings of nature's gift. Camp here for overnight stay.
Day 04

Kedarkantha Base Camp (11,250 ft.) to Kedarkantha Summit (12,500 ft.) and descend to Hargaon (8,450 ft.)

It's a long day today but the excitement of the journey and conquering the peak would be far greater and much more worthy in compared to the challenges that lay ahead for the visitors. The climb is steep but absolutely worthwhile and one with rewarding views. As you move forward slowly dense forest trails surrounding by Pine trees start to disappear slowly. It takes about 2 hours to reach there. On the summit you are surrounded by mountain ranges and valleys. Panoramic views of mighty Himalayas range mixed with dark blue and white clouds scattered like a painting sketched by nature just for you. You will see the Dhauladhar range, Chansil Pass, Rupin valley, Har ki Dun valley. Swargarohini also comes into view along with Bandarpoonch and Black Peak. Some of the other peaks you see include Jaonti, Gangotri, Yamnotri Draupadi ka Danda and Jorkanden. After spending some time on the top, you head back to campsite, have lunch at a middle point of descend at the basecamp and head towards Hargaon. After a great day, spend the night in tents.
Day 05

Hargaon (8,450 ft.) to Sankri (6,400 ft.)

Today you will be heading towards Sankri from where it all started approximately 6 km long trail counting about 4 hours. After breakfast, we will descend through a more marked well paved route, laden with stones. A trail further the trail leads to a ridge from where you get a splendid view of Har ki Dun valley. After reaching Sankri by noon, get settled in for an overnight stay in guest house/camp/home stay. Roam around this quiet village and learn some words of the local language, this is appreciated and often results in getting more out of the experience.
Day 6

Drive to Dehradun from Sankri

Depart from Sankri early in the morning, preferably before 07:00 AM since the journey takes 8-9 hours. Transport will be arranged at an additional cost from Sankri to Dehradun Railway Station at 07:00 AM. Cost of cab – Rs. 5,500/- per vehicle.

How to Reach

By Air :- 
Jolly Grant Airport is the airport serving Dehradun, located about 25 km from the city. There is a daily flight from Delhi to Dehradun

By Train :- 
Take the overnight train to Dehradun from Delhi

  • Nandadevi Express – Train no: 12205 (Departure 11:50pm; Arrival – 5:40am)
  • Dehradun Express – Train no: 12687 (Departure – 9:10pm; Arrival – 5:00am)

By Bus:- 
There is regular bus service from Delhi to Dehradun, from Delhi’s ISBT Kashmere Gate.
We would suggest you to take only government buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private buses ply from outside ISBT and they are not trust worthiness.
Usually buses drop you at Dehradun ISBT. From there you have to come to Dehradun Railway Station

  • Mountsafar Tata Sumo or similar vehicles will pick-up you from Dehradun Railway Station at 6:00am.
  • You will reach Sankri by 5:00 pm
  • Food from dehradun to Sankri is not included in the trek cost

Note : Normally Mountsafar expect to carry your personal luggage on your own, if you wish to offload your backpack, you can give it to Mule.
Charges of offloading backpack:-
INR 1200/- if you make an online payment, 10 days in advance
INR 1500/- if you inform us after reaching Sankri
The backpack cannot weigh more than 11 kgs. Backpack should have waterproof cover. Suitcases/strolleys/ bags will not be allowed.

When to book:

t is wise to make your booking at least two months in advance. However, if you want a good deal on your domestic/international flight, we recommend organizing your trip at least one month in advance. (Please contact us if you require a late booking)

In the event of cancellation of trek/adventure activity services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date we receive advice in writing, and cancellation charges would be as follows: –

Cancellations prior to 15 days from the start of the trek 
Book any other trek till one year or get 100% refund
(Note: If the trek charges are more, the balance needs to be paid by the trekker)

Cancellation between 15 days and 7 days to the start of the trek
Choose to go for the same trek, with any other batch, till year or get 75% refund

Cancellation between 7 days and 3 days to the start of the trek
Choose to go on the same trek, in the same season, with any other batch or get 60% refund.

Cancellation less than 3 days to the start of the trek
Transfer your trek (same trek, same batch) to your friend. No cash refund.

1)- Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
2)- In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by Mountsafar.
3)- Mountsafar holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.
